Roxie J. Jones

Roxie Jamison Jones, JD, was Chief Counsel for Economic Affairs when she retired from U.S. Department of Commerce. As Chief Counsel, Ms. Jones led the legal office that advised the Economics and Statistics Administration (ESA) on programmatic law, policy, and legal matters related to economic and demographic data collected by ESA and its two bureaus, the Bureau of Economic Analysis and the Census Bureau. Ms. Jones was the legal liaison with the Justice Department in all ESA litigation, including litigation concerning fundamental constitutional questions. (1997-2011) Earlier in her legal career, Ms. Jones worked as a procurement attorney for the Department of Commerce and the General Services Administration where she provided procurement law advice and assistance regarding numerous contracts, including the acquisition of radars, satellites and other major systems that made up the initial modernization of the National Weather Service. After retiring from the federal government, Ms. Jones joined a family-owned utility and construction company where she serves as the company's contract administrator.
Ms. Jones is the recipient of a number of Federal awards including a Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Senior Professionals, a Silver Medal Award for Meritorious Federal Service, and Bronze Medal Awards for Organizational Excellence. Ms. Jones is a member of the Alabama State Bar and the U.S. Supreme Court Bar. She is a past chairman of the Commerce Department's Federal Women's Program Committee and a past Secretary of the American University, Washington College of Law Black Alumni Association. Ms. Jones was on the Board of Directors of the Commerce chapter of the Senior Executive Association. She has been an American University, Washington College of Law mentor and is a volunteer instructor at her church.
Ms. Jones is a graduate of Lincoln University (B.A. History, 1976) and American University (J.D., 1982). She is married and the mother of four.
